Tuesday News Day: Take A Little Detour

(because reality makes great art)

HOW ONE SMALL DETOUR...
(is improving my first love, writing)

I wrote an entry last month entitled "Get Ballsy, Get Unblocked," about exploring new ways to overcome artistic blocks and setbacks.  I've since kept up the habit of trying different activities to help generate new story ideas and improve existing ones.  Most recently I dug out my old Minolta 35mm camera and went wandering around looking for interesting stuff to photograph. I even developed the pictures myself.  Yes, I went very old school...used a friend's makeshift dark room and everything.  It was fun! Take a look.

Abandoned Glendale Hospital
The pics of the hospital have definitely prompted a few short story ideas. My friend and I were too chicken to actually go into any of the buildings. It was creepy. Not to mention, we were already trespassing.

The Washington National Cathedral
It's just a very beautiful, meditative and peaceful place to visit.  Being there made me think less about plot and structure and more about how to create more complex, three dimensional characters.  Maybe a protagonist warring with some complicated moral issue?

Just Eggs
I was playing around with contrast. My friend thought they were teeth. Ha! : ) Kinda reminds me to think outside of the box a little.  Experiment in other words.

What do you do to
overcome creative blocks?

Much love,
-V.D.

geez, your photos are incredible, so super impressed. I think these could/should be sold and framed in someones house, or gallery or whereever.
My sister does photography as a side hobby/creative outlet as well, (shes a crazy talented musician) and i just know she would go crazy over these.

@J - Thank you for the compliments. I'm not a pro at all with the photography, but it's something I still like to do every now and then.

Wait your sister is Eternia right? I think you sent me a link to her music. I listened to it. I was like "ok their whole family is talented!" lol

I'll email you soon girlie!
